Scientific interests
Interactions between organisms and their evolution generally fascinate me. More specifically, I am interested in microbiology, both environmental and medical, with an ecological and evolutionary approach.
My thesis focuses on gene transfer. It can be vertical, between an ancestor and his descendant, or horizontal, between independent organisms. The horizontal gene transfer is of real importance in the evolution of species. Indeed, it leads to the acquisition of genes, which can allow better adaptation to a new environment and thus, the prosperity of a species. However, as it is possible to acquire beneficial genes, it is also possible to get some with deleterious effects. Therefore, horizontal gene transfer is a risky strategy. Thus, my thesis will aim to understand more specifically the advantage for bacteria to maintain such a system.
