Planning a career strategy - part 1 - Networking & job finding methodology

Objectives
Students will learn about the various job-finding methods and understand how to develop a personal career strategy.

Pavel Kraus, born 1955, holds a Doctorate from ETH Zurich and a master degree from the University of Chicago, both in the fields of geography.
In 1987 he joined Hoffmann-La Roche holding various positions in pharma marketing. As a knowledge networking officer he developed and implemented knowledge management methods in the Roche diagnostics division.
After leaving Roche in 2001, P. Kraus is one of the founding partners of the consulting company aht'intermediation. In addition he teaches at various universities for applied science.
Content and pre-course assignment
Students will identify their personal job options and expand their horizon regarding their future possibilities on the job market.
A round table will be organized on Thursday 3 October (10.00-12.30) with participants from industry, university, federal institution, and former doctoral program participants:
- Dr Luca Rossi, Philip Morris International R&D, director product testing
- Dr Diana Santelia, University of Zürich, Institute of plant biology (former PhD students)
- Dr Susanne Vogelgsang, Agroscope Reckenholz-Taenikon ART, head of research group
- Prof. Ted Farmer, University of Lausanne, Department of plant molecular biology
Pre-course assignment : developing and sending in the current version of CV before 13 September to Dr. Pavel Kraus .

Registration fee : None. Lunches are included for participants of the Interuniversity doctoral program in organismal biology. For all other participants: CHF 15 / lunch (optional, to be paid at the registration desk).
Travel expenses : see reimbursement conditions.
Only participants of the doctoral program are eligible for reimbursement of incurred travel expenses by train (half-fare card, and 2nd class). Please send the original tickets (no copies, except for the general abonnement) with the reimbursement form to Christiane Bobillier.

- This course is open to all PhD students, however until 30 July priority is given to "Interuniversity doctoral program in organismal biology" participants.
Minimum number of participants: 12, maximum: 16. - This course is free, but the effective cost is approx. CHF 400.00 per person. Therefore a waiting list will be prepared to ensure that there are no empty seats.
