Planning your career: Job Finding Methodology, Networking and Training to meet your future employer expectations

Objectives
- Students learn about the various job-finding methods and understand how to develop a personal career strategy. They expand their horizon regarding their future possibilities on the job market
- Student learn about the importance and methodology of networking and what role it plays in finding a job
- Students will improve their CV and learn how to adapt it.
- Students will practice job interviews situations to improve their personal communication style
- Students will be prepared for the interview process

Dr. Pavel Kraus, AHT intermediation GmbH, Pfäffikon
Pavel Kraus, born 1955, holds a Doctorate from ETH Zurich and a master degree from the University of Chicago, both in the fields of geography.
In 1987 he joined Hoffmann-La Roche holding various positions in pharma marketing. As a knowledge networking officer he developed and implemented knowledge management methods in the Roche diagnostics division.
After leaving Roche in 2001, P. Kraus is one of the founding partners of the consulting company AHT intermediation. In addition he teaches at various universities for applied science.
Content
In this course students will learn about the various job-finding methods and understand their differences. We will discuss steps how to develop a personal career strategy. This will expand their horizon regarding their future possibilities on the job market. Networking plays a key role in getting a good job. Student will learn about the importance and methodology of networking and explore their personal options.
We will also analyze CVs and discuss ways how to improve them. Furthermore the technique of modular CVs that are adapted to particular jobs will be demonstrated.
Students will practice job interviews situations to improve their personal communication style. This will prepare them for various job interviews.
Pre-course assignment
- Identification of transferable abilities:
- Finding personal skills using skill identification tables or
- Alternatively assessing personal skill with a structured systematic approach

- Reading of scientists career paths
- Creating a «Quick Personal Portrait»

- This course is free and open to all PhD students, however until 6 October, 2019 priority is given to "Interuniversity doctoral program in organismal biology" participants.
- Post-docs are welcome as long as places are available.
- Minimum number of participants: 12, maximum: 16.
- The effective cost of the course is approx. CHF 400.00 per person. Therefore, a waiting list will be prepared to ensure that there are no empty seats.
