Use of Microbes in the Conservation and Restoration of Art Objects - a joint symposium with CUSO
20 January 2014
A joint symposium with CUSO Doctoral Program in Microbial sciences .
Organizers: Pilar Junier , Edith Joseph, and Daniel Job (University of Neuchâtel)
Objectives
To present the most recent advances in biotechnologies applied to cultural heritage.
To discuss novel methodological approaches in the field.
Content
Recent studies have clearly demonstrated the potential of exploiting the unique properties of some microorganisms for developing alternative eco-friendly and sustainable treatments for the preservation of cultural heritage.
However, the use of biotechnologies in conservation-restoration represents a novel strategy: in the design of such biological treatments, criteria should thus be carefully defined taking into account conservation-restoration ethics.
The 1-day symposium plans to bring together experts in conservation science and biology to discuss advances in the area as well as to allow Swiss young scientist to discover this novel field.
Speakers
Dr. Francesca Cappitelli , Università degli Studi di Milano, Italy
Jean-François Loubière (jean.loubiere (AT) wanadoo.fr), AMONIT
Dr Edith Joseph , Université de Neuchâtel, Switzerland
