  • Functions of proposals: plan, communicate, convince
  • Characteristics of functional proposals: clarity, consistency, conciseness
  • Refining research ideas
  • Developing the structure of proposals (with introduction, problem statement, aims and objectives, literature review, etc.)
  • Differences between proposal writing and paper writing

Pre-course assignment :

S end to Christiane Bobillier before 5 March 2012:

  • The research question you would like to tackle in your next research project.
  • The five reasons for the relevance of this question.
  • The section headings of a sample grant proposal:
You may get a sample from your department (ask your supervisor for a well-prepared grant proposal) or find one on the internet. Then note the section structure of the proposal.
