Scanning electronic microcospy (SEM)

3-5 May 2010 (session 1) or 4-6 October 2010 (session 2)

objectives

Prepare your own biological material  (insects, plants, fungi, etc.) for observation and learn how to manipulate the scanning electronic microscope (SEM). The aim is also to provide pictures of the brought organism in order to document your own research.

content

1st day: Preparation of samples (fixation, desiccation, mounting, metallization)
2nd and 3rd day: Continuation of preparation (if needed) and observation of preparations with the SEM at the CSEM (2 hours/each participant)

Travel expenses: participants of the doctoral program are eligible for reimbursement of incurred travel expenses by train (half-fare card, and 2nd class). Please send the original tickets (no copies, except for the general abonnement) at the end of the term with the reimbursement form to Dr. Christiane Bobillier.  No reimbursement for bus, taxi or car travel expenses will be paid.

The workshop is open to to doctoral program participants only.
Priority will also be given to Ph.D.students bringing their own biological material.

The workshop is free, but the effective cost is approx. CHF 300.00 per person. Therefore a waiting list will be prepared to ensure that there are no empty seats.
For practical reasons, the course is limited to 6 participants.

To provide the basis for the organization of the course, participants have to fill in the SEM registration form and send it to Michèle Vlimant (michele.vlimant@unine.ch) after registration.
