Scanning electronic microcospy (SEM)

14 - 16 December 2009

objectives

Prepare your own biological material  (insects, plants, fungi, etc.) for observation and learn how to manipulate the scanning electronic microscope (SEM). The aim is also to provide pictures of the brought organism in order to document your own research.

organizers

Michèle Vlimant (laboratory technician, michele.vlimant@unine.ch) and Jérôme Frei (Ph.D. student, jerome.frei@unine.ch), Laboratory of Animal Physiology, University of Neuchâtel

content

1st day: Preparation of samples (fixation, desiccation, mounting, metallization)
2nd day: Continuation of preparation if needed and observation of preparations with the SEM at the CSEM
3rd day: Observation of preparations with the SEM at the CSEM

Registered participants should contact Michèle Vlimant (michele.vlimant@unine.ch) at least 2 weeks before the beginning of the course to give information on what kind of organisms they plan to prepare and observe.
