Arriving in Neuchâtel
On the first day of the programme (or the week before, if you are already in Neuchâtel), please go to the Registration Office (Bureau des immatriculations) to get your student card.
What you need to know
Healthcare
Health insurance is mandatory in Switzerland. There are two options:
- Insure yourself in your home country, if applicable. (EU residents are insured in their home countries).
Download the relevant form.
Check with your healthcare insurance.
- Buy insurance as soon as you arrive at the University of Neuchâtel.
For assistance, go to the Student Services Office.

Immigration
- Information on residence permits and study visas.
- Non-European Community/AELE residents will be asked to pay a deposit of CHF 18,000.00 to a Swiss bank account, at any bank located in Switzerland.
- Should the Service des migrations (Neuchâtel's immigration service) decline to grant you a residence/student permit, you will not be enrolled at the University of Neuchâtel.
Late arrivals
In case of a delay in acquiring a visa, we recommend that you start the programme in the following semester. Late arrival may seriously impact your chance of succeeding in the programme.
Student card
When you arrive in Neuchâtel, please go the Registration Office, Service Immatriculation et mobilité to get your student card.
