Sociologue politique de formation, je suis post-doctorant et co-coordinateur du projet "Democratizing the Economy through Consumers: Consumer-Owned Food Retailers and their Potentials for Fostering Economic Democracy", financé par le Fonds national suisse.

Ce projet étudie la démocratie économique sous un angle rarement abordé : celui des consommateur·trice·s. L’étude examine comment les coopératives de consommateur·trice·s dans le domaine alimentaire contribuent à démocratiser l’économie, en mettant en lumière la mise en œuvre de processus démocratiques au sein de ces organisations et en analysant comment ces dernières influencent des pratiques au-delà de leur propre structure.

La recherche s’inspire de mes expériences personnelles dans deux supermarchés coopératifs et participatifs : la Park Slope Food Coop à New York et Güter Foodcoop à Berne. En étudiant les potentiels et les limites de telles initiatives, cette recherche vise à être pertinente non seulement pour la communauté scientifique, mais aussi pour les acteur·trice·s sur le terrain. Elle se donne notamment pour objectif d’identifier les processus d’inclusion et d’exclusion afin de faciliter des débats collectifs sur les possibilités et les obstacles à la participation sociale et politique de différents groupes sociaux.

Je suis aussi membre associé du Centre de recherche sur l’action politique de l’université de Lausanne, membre du comité directeur du Research Network 25 « Social Movements » de l’Association européenne de sociologie et membre du projet ECOPOL.

Research

Holding a Ph.D. in political sociology, I am a post-doctoral researcher and co-coordinator of the project "Democratizing the Economy through Consumers: Consumer-Owned Food Retailers and their Potentials for Fostering Economic Democracy," funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation.

This project expands the view of economic democracy by exploring it from a rarely discussed perspective: that of consumers. It investigates how consumer-owned food retailers contribute to democratizing the economy by examining the implementation of democratic practices within these organizations and analyzing how these practices extend beyond the organizations themselves.

My research is informed by personal experiences with two cooperative and participatory supermarkets: the Park Slope Food Coop in New York and Güter Foodcoop in Bern. By studying the potential and limitations of such initiatives, the research aims to be relevant not only to the scientific community but also to actors on the ground. Specifically, it seeks to identify processes of inclusion and exclusion to facilitate collective debates on the possibilities and barriers to social and political participation by diverse social groups.

I am also an associate member of the Centre de recherche sur l'action politique at the University of Lausanne, a board member of the Research Network 25 "Social Movements" of the European Sociological Association, and a member of the ECOPOL project.
