Mehdi Farsi

Biography
Mehdi obtained his PhD in Economics from University of Southern California. He also holds a DEA and MSc in Civil Engineering from Ecole Centrale de Lyon and University of Tehran. Prior to his current engagement in Neuchâtel, he has been a Senior Scientist at the ETH Zürich where he obtained his habilitation in Applied Microeconomics and Econometrics.
Mehdi’s research interest lies in topics relevant to the society, where scientific analysis can inform current policy debates. In his methods he favors eclecticism and strives for interdisciplinary approaches. His current research focuses on the determinants of energy demand and behavioral responses to market innovations and new technologies.
Mehdi is a fierce believer in creative thinking and its important role in learning and productivity. In his teaching, he endeavors to integrate pedagogical approaches that promote critical thinking applied to real-world problems. He has taught a variety of courses including Microeconomics, Game Theory, Industrial Organization, Public Economics, Applied Econometrics and Energy Economics. He also supervises PhD and post-doctoral research as well as dissertations at both Bachelor and Master levels.
